Herbruck's Poultry Ranch Laying Off About 400 Staff in Michigan Due to Bird Flu

Herbruck's Poultry Ranch is temporarily laying off about 400 employees in Michigan due to the spread of bird flu.

The company's chief human resources officer Stephanie Kempa said the virus impacted the company's hen population at some farms in Ionia County.

"The company plans to rehire many positions as hen replenishing and egg production increases," Kempa said in a letter to the state Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

Missouri Prime Beef Packers to Close Processing Plant in April

In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice to the state Monday, Missouri Prime Beef Packers announced it will close its processing plant in Pleasant Hope, Missouri due to unforeseeable business circumstances.

The plant will close on April 26, 2024, resulting in the termination of 335 full-time employees. The bulk of layoffs will impact fabrication staff. The closure may be permanent or temporary, added yesterday's letter.

Cleveland-Cliffs to Idle Weirton Tinplate Facility Following Unfavorable ITC Ruling

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. announced today that it will be indefinitely idling its tinplate production plant located in Weirton, West Virginia in April 2024. WARN Notice Indicates Partial Layoff at Cargill's Nashville Plant

Cargill has filed a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, notifying the agency of a layoff on March 15, 2024.

The notice, filed on January 24, will affect 111 workers at its “crumbles production” at Cargill’s plant in Nashville, Tennessee. The facility is located on Eugenia Ave and was acquired by Cargill in 2016. 

The employees at the facility are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement, added the notice.
